Hearing: Sensory Series 2

Sorry I fell behind, y’all. Part 2 of the Sensory Series:

That Moan

If we set aside the controversy

and the seduction of debate.

If we tease out opinion, exceptions and data,

What do you make of the sound?

The deep fluttering moan

Of mother

And father

And friend

And lovers

Grieving Black Girl Stolen,

Brown Boy Jettisoned.

What of the wail,

that shakes strangers to pause,

and take notice of death,

take stock in bloody sidewalks

and eroded, wormy minds of dominion.

In that sound,

what is left to examine?

Which outfit, carriage or

Reaction deems fitting?

The spectacle you mocked

was our baby, our hope.

And now you can hear the hell

that lives and dies

in your empty understanding

Of us.
